Greatest Hits, Volume I & II

I’ve been looking back on my career some lately as I contemplate options for what to do next, and I realized I’ve had some pretty incredible opportunities. I’m always on the lookout to challenge myself in different ways, but I think it’s good to look back and appreciate what you’ve experienced and learned along the way. So like musicians compiling their greatest hit albums, I came up with few lists of my greatest hits in my career so far. It all stemmed from an early realization I had that technology would impact our lives in amazing ways, and that I wanted to be a part of sharing that with people.

Greatest Hits, Volume I:

In the early part of my career, I had opportunities that led to learning to secure large scale computer networks, studying film, theatre and screenwriting in London, helping design a tethered satellite system, developing a software product to prevent ergonomic injuries, producing what may have been the world’s first cyberpunk stage play, launching the first blog for a presumed presidential candidate, having my articles on cybersecurity translated in multiple languages, and becoming a delegate to a United Nations World Summit on the Information Society.

Greatest Hits, Volume II:

Some of my favorite professional memories from the past decade include speaking at the first ever Startup Women Forum in Russia, getting my book published by a notable publisher, visiting the U.S. Senate Chamber as a national security fellow, writing a column for the San Francisco Chronicle, attending a White House conference, giving a keynote speech to empower young women in tech in my home town, seeing my face on The Tonight Show, winning a national award for digital innovation, talking policy with the U.S. Secretary of State, training global innovators on behalf of the State Department, helping teach kids about adaptive technologies, finding out I was a featured speaker at South by Southwest, interviewing amazing change makers like Maria Shriver, Henry Bloch, and Kirsten Gillibrand, and being interviewed for Good Morning America.

Recently, I circled back to screenwriting again and decided to write the first script I’ve attempted in a long time. It’s now complete, so I can finish revisions and pitch producers. So maybe someday this will be part of Volume III. I’m also looking out for a new adventure working with an innovative organization, I’d like to write more books at some point in the future, and I have a few other things I’d like to do long-term. But for now, it’s fun to take a moment and appreciate the journey so far.
